Following the previous landlady, Maria Wilby, Edward Wickham and his young family moved into the Gardeners Arms in November 1895. As with many of his contemporaries, Edward, born in 1869 (as listed in the 1901 Census) had another job, alongside his duties as a licencee, described as a Clicker shoe trade & a publican. The shoe/boot trade and textiles was a major employer within Norwich at the end of the Victorian period.

From the 1901 Census, it appears that 3 of the Wickham's Children, Leonard (4 years), Laura (2 years) & Ida (3 months), where all born at the Gardeners Arms.We also know that Ernest & Sarah Crisp, had 5 out of 6 of there children ( Ellen b.1916, Irene b.1920, Charles b. 1921, Stanley b. 1923, Reginald b.1924) born inside the pub, and that Philip Cutter's daughter, Molly, (b.1998) was also born inside the living accomodation. Therefore, despite the gruesome nick-name of The Murderers, there have in actually fact been more reported births, (9) than deaths here (3.... Henry Wilby, Millie Miles, Irene Crisp)!!

Edward Wickham left the Gardeners Arms, and moved onto Rosary Tavern,on the 4th February 1902

Edwards, died in 1911, aged 42. His wife Laura, took on the licence at The Rosary Tavern, after his death on 13th March 1911.
